In the wake of the 2024 general election, many of us are feeling despair, grief, and anger over the results, especially at the national level. We had terrible options—between a wannabe fascist dictator and a neoliberal genocidaire in the Oval Office, neither outcome would be desirable for the working class in the United States. Unfortunately, the worst of all choices came to fruition. With the Senate, House, and SCOTUS also being captured by far-right forces, it is understandable to feel fear and hopelessness. But we will NOT let those feelings get the best of us. That’s how the oligarchy wins. Fear paralyzes, and apathy kills. The reality is, we’ve got work to do.
Change to the status quo doesn’t happen overnight. If we want the possibility of a better future—a future without genocidal wars, where politicians answer to and materially improve the lives of working people instead of the donor class—we need to build it ourselves. We need to channel our anger into doing what must be done, because workers deserve more.
We deserve candidates who see the cause of labor intertwined with that of immigrants, trans people, and Palestinians as the hope of the world. We deserve candidates who do not equivocate on genocide or a woman’s right to choose. We deserve candidates who fight against poverty, for the working class, and for the future of our nation and our world. We deserve candidates who work for US, not for billionaires or in their own self-interests. And we need to fight for what we deserve.
The only way forward is to fight back. If we want a better future for our country, we need to organize with our neighbors, in our communities, and in our workplaces. Real power is built from the ground up.
This election is over. Our work is just beginning, and we are stronger together. Join DSA and help us in our fight to build working-class power. Because workers deserve more. Together, we can make a better world possible.
Solidarity forever!
